Atom Drop Deck Longboard (41-Inch)

The Atom Drop Deck Longboard is a longboard produced by Atom Longboards that is made to go downhill. The main focus of Atom Longboards when they came up with the concept of the Drop Deck Longboard was to produce a reliable board fit for downhill riding. The forty-one inch long deck is known for its stability and size that offer a large amount of balance to the person that is riding the board, this unfortunately comes at a price of a lower top speed.

Benefit of customer when using this product:

The main benefit of using the Drop Deck is that it is a great board to start your hobby of riding a longboard. Because of the solid stability and handling the Drop Deck is a great model for beginners as their first longboard. Also people that are not completely daredevils will be satisfied with the Drop Deck because it offers a safer ride due to its close distance between the deck and the ground combined with the improved handling.

The prominent feature of the product:

The most prominent feature of this longboard is unquestionably the stability it offers to the person riding the board. Atom Longboards designed the Drop Deck to be significantly closer to the ground than other models they produced. This trait of the Drop Deck leads to better handling and a more stable feeling on the board.

Pros and cons:

Pros

Besides the earlier mentioned traits the Drop Deck has other advantages. Not only is the deck closer to the ground than other longboards, the deck is also larger in length than most of the longboards produced my Atom. This increased length and larger surface of the deck make the Drop Deck such an ideal longboard for beginners that do not have a great sense of balance on longboards. With the larger surface the user has more room to place his feet and widen his stance to gain balance.

Cons

If the board is not taken care of well, certain flaws of the board will become apparent. Correct maintenance plays a large part in the longevity of the Drop Deck. in order to extend the amount of time the board can be used, the owner of the board has to do a relative large amount of work to keep the board in top condition. This will be touched upon later on. Another negative aspect of the Drop Deck is its greatest asset, the height of the deck. Because the Drop Deck is extremely close to the ground, the board is prone to hitting low objects with its fragile deck. Object like the curb of a sidewalk or rocks can damage the deck if they are hit at a high speed.

User guide:

The Drop Deck is a user friendly model that is supposed to be used in a straightforward way. First of all, in order to have a safe ride it is recommended to wear the appropriate protective gear such as a helmet, knee pads and elbow pads. This protective gear is especially important when going downhill and reaching high speeds. When you use the Drop Deck for the first time you should try out what your favourite stance is on the board, right or left foot forward? Once you have that figured out you have to know where to place your feet. You should place your feet a bit further apart than your shoulder width to be able to stand stable. Your feet should be perpendicular to the direction you are going towards while your upper body should remain in a straight above your feet while you bend through your knees and occasionally use your back feet to push off on the ground to gain speed. You should practice these basics on a flat slope first, when you have these basics under control you can try using your Drop Deck at a slightly descending slope and gradually move on to steeper slopes when you feel comfortable.

Care and maintenance guide:

Any longboard has to be taken care of right in order to perform well, the Drop Deck is no different. Because the Drop Deck’s most prominent features are its stability and handling, the wheels and bearings need to be in great condition. By frequently putting grease on the trucks of the board in between rides, you will notice that the Drop Deck will remain in good shape. Especially after longer periods of not using the Drop Deck Longboard a thorough inspection before a ride to check whether all wheels still spin well and the board is still completely straight is recommended. If the Drop Deck is not in top condition it can be very dangerous the ride the board at high speeds, therefore it is recommended to take care of the problem in the ways discussed previously or to let the board get fixed by a professional in order to ensure a safe ride.

FAQ:

Question: Is the Drop Deck Longboard fit for children?

Answer: Yes, unlike other boards the Drop Deck offers a large amount of stability to the rider and because of the low height of the deck the board the legs of the child do not have to be long in order to push off on the ground.

Question: On what kind of surfaces can this board be used?

The Drop Deck is made for downhill riding so surfaces like asphalt and tarmac. With the small wheels of the Drop Deck the board can be used on smooth surfaces and not on rough terrain and off road.

Conclusion:

All in all the Drop Deck Longboard by Atom Longboards is a board fit for beginning long boarders and long boarders that find safety and handling more important than maximum speed. Unfortunately the board does require a fair amount of maintenance to ensure a safe ride and a solid performance from the longboard. But when the board is in top condition and used properly you will enjoy the experience.
